SQL Analyzer - Part II
To my previous post on SQL Analyzer tool, here are the sample screens of the tool
Tool allows user to select file either from file directory or copy past the script. And user has option to select rules required to be run against the script.
Keep looking for this space for more updates on the tool ....

On analyzing the script the tool will display the number of errors and warning on the script. Errors are to be mandatory fixed whereas warnings are nice to fix, The tool also displays the recommendations on each error or warning for correction. For usability and easy tracking of the error, tool displays the line number and also highlights the line with red color text.

Tool based MS SQL Script review for Performance, Design and Naming rules
Do you have a store procedure which is running longer duration than expected? Do you have a database with performance issues? Are you not sure whether script written is in line with Microsoft best practices ?
Here is the answer , SQL Analyzer tool from HappiestMinds will analyze the sql script for Microsoft best practices and also identifies queries which will have performance issues and provide you the recommendation. The tool can be launched from the mutliple channels such as Visual studio, console, web, windows application.
Tool has 65 rules built in based on Microsoft best practices and also from experience of team. Rules are spread across performance, design and naming convention.
Tool is extremely helpful if you are DBA and managing Production database, it will do review of the script against the rules and provide you the report to deciede for production release. As a DBA you can also define custom rules which needs to be validated for every script release or you can choose to run only required rules for every script release.

Competency Mapping
Today I was reading article on how to do Competency mapping, It is very interesting to find that it is mutli dimensional matrix. For example you can have competency mapping done for the grade and role. Let us consider a scenarion as individual you will have grade but not necessarily perform the same responsibility in the project you are allocated all the time. Because when allocation is done it is based on project requirement, people avalability and suitability of individual profile. Question is how do we address the scenario where an individual is mapped to role which is lower than the grade because of project requiremet or organizational requirement?
In my opinion these scenarios to be avoided as much as possible, in case of un avoidable circumstances define competency mapping which has primary as per role assigned in the project and secondary as per grade. Provide factors to these definately higher to role Vs grade and use this for gap analysis and training or self development recommendations.
Interested to know few of the thoughts on this or how you have handled this situation?
